DESIGN & THE DESIGNER
Everyone enjoys a space they find beautiful, functional and comfortable, but taste is subjective. I see my role as a designer as collaborative…it’s not my job to impose my aesthetic, but to help clients find their own while incorporating items that are meaningful to them. Sometimes they have furniture pieces, a rug, art or memorabilia that they wish to use or repurpose, and sometimes we can start from scratch — but when I’m gone, it needs to feel like their space. Often, couples don’t agree on specific items, colors or style, and it can be fun and rewarding to help them come together on decisions that result in a space they both are proud of. This kind of collaboration has resulted in relationships I treasure more than any finished product.
I’ve been designing things (doll houses, clothing, room layouts, furniture pieces, curtains and pillows, my own spaces) as long as I can remember, but I’ve been designing professionally for 15 years. “Beautiful spaces you’ll love” is my goal (actually, “Beautiful, functional, comfortable spaces you’ll love that are meaningful to you,” but it’s not pithy enough!), and it’s a goal I never tire of pursuing. If you would like my help, I hope you’ll contact me.
